This Poem Belongs to You

This poem
  belongs to you
    and is already finished,

it was begun years ago
          and I put it away

knowing it would come
  into the world
    in its own time.

In fact
  you have already read it,
       and closing the pages
           of the book,

you are now
  abandoning the projects
   of the day and putting on
     your shoes and coat
      to take a walk.

It has been long years
  since you felt like this.

You have remembered
  what I remembered,
    when I first began to write.

Ce poème t'appartient

Ce poème
t'appartient
et est déjà achevé,

il fut commencé il y a des années
puis je l'ai mis de côté

sachant qu'il entrerait
dans le monde
quand son heure arriverait.

En fait
tu l'as déjà lu,
et fermant les pages
du livre,
tu abandonnes
à présent
tes projets
de la journée et tu mets
tes chaussures et ton manteau
pour aller te promener.

Cela fait de longues années
que tu ne t'es senti ainsi.

Tu t'es rappelé
ce que je me suis rappelé
lorsque j'ai commencé à écrire.
